Though not much is out about his parents, his grandparents were pretty famous. Pell is the grandson of Claiborne Pell, who was the senator of Rhode Island. His grandmother, Nuala Pell, was also from an influential family. Pell had an active and sincere nature from his early days. He joined Georgetown University and graduated from there to become a lawyer. He worked as a fellow and associate before joining the United States Coast Guard.
While pursuing his career in the coast guard, Pell graduated from the Commission Office school. He worked hard in his job, which made him a fellow in the White house. He also got to work in the United States Department of Education. He got divorced from his wife just after four years of marriage.
